Laurel Burch was born in 1945 and started her business in 1960 when she began making jewelry and selling it on the streets of San Francisco.
She went to China in 1971 and discovered cloisonné, a kind of enamel work.
In 1979 she started Laurel Burch Inc. and was president and chief designer.
In the 1990s she licensed her designs to companies that now make and distribute her creations worldwide.
She died in 2007
